Feeding those in need and our front line heroes

41,00 free meals

Since May 2, 2020 Legaci Eats has provided over 41,00 free meals to those in need and our front line heroes.

We take great pride in serving them food created with the same ingredients and love we would give our own family. Too often in our society we have an attitude that those in need “get what they get.” Our beliefs defy that and we know in need does not equate to less than. Our hope is those who receive our meals know they are cared for, considered, and deeply loved.

One of the most fundamental parts of who we are as humans is the breaking of bread. For some of us it can be easy to take for granted the simple blessing of a hot meal for our family. For many of our families what some would consider a necessity is actually quite a luxury.

We have seen the elderly burst into tears when receiving our meal. They had been so isolated and alone and were overwhelmed to know someone in the world cares for them. Children come hastily to the door to receive our bags, clapping the entire way. Some of our families give back by volunteering and delivering meals. Others make donations once they are back on their feet. All become family.

As we ride out the monstrous COVID roller coaster food scarcity remains a very real problem in our community. Charlottesville is one of the most difficult communities to rise out of poverty. Virginia as a state has a poverty rate of 9%. In Charlottesville that percentage is nearly 25.

Whether a family is in dire need of food or a mom with a kids with special needs who just needs a night off, Legaci Eats is there. We aren’t just delivering sustenance for their bellies but hope for their souls.

Our front line workers are heroes every single day. COVID 19 helped us to appreciate them more. When the world shut down they did not. Medical personnel showed up to care for the sick. Police kept our community safe. EMTs and fire fighters continued to rescue us. Part of our ministry is showing our appreciation to them hoping they too will feel cared for, considered, and deeply loved.

Kindness is free. Spread that stuff everywhere.
